During last night’s Alexisonfire concert at David Lam Park, a section of a concert barricade in front of the stage gave way, causing several injuries.
“Safety at Live City Vancouver is our primary concern. Today, Live Nation, our producer, is taking the appropriate steps to ensure the site continues to be safe,” said City Manager, Dr. Penny Ballem. “Last night’s quick and professional response contributed to the safety of all involved. The extensive on-site medical personnel and facilities allowed for immediate care, and our emergency management plan worked as expected.”
Nineteen people were injured when the concert barricade collapsed. Live Nation’s planned emergency response was initiated, on-site emergency medical staff and security responded immediately, and 911 was called. All injured individuals were assessed and treated at the scene in the on-site medical facility that includes emergency doctors, nurses, and paramedics.
Nine people were transported to hospital for further assessment. Two individuals sustained lower leg fractures, with a further report of an individual with an injured knee. The rest of the individuals were assessed, treated and released last night.
Live Nation, the production company for LiveCity Vancouver, has removed the entire 140-foot concert barricade, and a replacement barricade has been installed in its place.
“We sincerely regret that individuals were injured at David Lam Park,” said Dr. Ballem. “The city is gratified that the response was quick and professional, and relieved that the injuries were not more serious. Finally, it is clear that the quick action of the band and Live Nation was important in optimizing the response to this incident. I want to thank the members of Alexisonfire and Live Nation.”
LiveCity Yaletown opened its doors as planned today, and we are following our planned schedule of entertainment.
